It’s Never Too Late

It’s really never too late to start something.  Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, there will always be exceptions, but generally speaking, if you decide to start something new today, be it a new passion project, exercise routine or career path, starting today is perfect.  The more you fear or doubt that next move the more you delay starting, and as Warren Miller famously said in every one of his ski movies: “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.”

In the world we live in, where everyone’s successes are shared and celebrated instantly and virally through various challenges of communication and social media, it is often intimidating and discouraging to start something new.  You instantly feel less than, inferior and way behind your peers.  But what if you flipped the script? Call me crazy, but it can be fun to be the rookie.  You have a blank slate, you can take a piece of inspiration or advice from your peers, and then make an experience or mosaic that its uniquely your own.

In summary, it’s great to have all of this information and awareness regarding the countless different paths we can pursue, but at the same time overwhelming.  In my experience, it has been beneficial to take that firehose of information and chew on it for a bit before going inside to reflect on the goals or endeavors that I want to pursue and focus on those in my own increments of attainable milestones.

Okay, and again, the million-dollar question, so how does this translate to the world of real estate?  Isn’t real estate a relentless game of comparison?  From pricing a property accurately for you sellers or finding the right home for a buyer, it’s all about comparing this to that, the price per foot over the view from that home or the amenities of this one.  This can easily lead to everyone feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, lost and in a state of analysis paralysis.  My two cents after thoroughly evaluating the market is to go within and decide for yourself, absent of the countless distractions that exists in any market, and decide what it is really that you want and what you’re willing to pay for it.  Truly assess the simple value of what this next home or condo means for you and your family and what you are willing to do or pay to make that happen.  And work from there.

Other fun information about Aspen and the local real estate market… Listings are up!  In the beginning of May there were only 146 residential listings in Aspen and as of July 1 we have eclipsed 210 with more listings coming to market weekly.  It is the prime of the summer real estate season in Aspen, so with all the new inventory I expect to start seeing a frenzy of contract and closing activity in the near future.  For single family homes the average price of listed properties is over $22,000,000 or nearly $3,900 per square foot.  In the condo and townhome segment, the median list price is $3,750,000 with a median price per foot of $3600. (I used median here because of a few Aspen core condo’s listing in the $30+M range!)

It's no doubt Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley is one of the most desirable places to live on the planet and the home prices and real estate activity is a direct result of that.  I’ve been in Aspen 17 years and like many moved here for the winters and have stayed for the summers. Call me today and let’s find your Aspen home. It’s never too late to start living your dreams.
