Come for Winter, stay for Summer.

The old ski town adage remains strong and true in Aspen and it only takes a few summer days in Aspen to fully understand it. I initially moved to Aspen to start a small business and ski as often as my schedule allowed me to. That first winter was the record breaking and epic 2007-2008 winter where Aspen saw nearly 400 inches of snow. After 16+ Colorado winters, ask me what my favorite season is and without hesitation I will shout summer from the rooftops.

What is there to do in Aspen in the summer you ask? Here’s my short list:

Cathedral Lake, Aspen, Colorado

Cathedral Lake from above. Aspen, Colorado.

  1. Hike, Hike, Hike. From in town short loops that take you along the Roaring Fork River to long and remote full day expeditions that can take you from Independence Pass to downtown Aspen (The Midway Trail) and old classics like American Lake, there are countless options for any ability.

  2. Get Wet. The thrill of running any one of the river sections throughout the Roaring Fork Valley will be etched into your memories forever. Elk Mountain Expeditions or Kiwi Adventure Co can get you onto and into the river for a trip of a lifetime.

  3. Summer Events! The summer calendar in Aspen is chalk full of events. It all kicks off with Aspen Food & Wine Festival and if you haven’t been yet, its a must. For the athletes, run the Boogies Fourth of July Race, The Aspen Valley Marathon, Aspen/Snowmass Power of Four or The Grand Traverse.

  4. Music is in abundance, from the Aspen Music Festival’s weekly concerts and JAS Aspen’s eclectic music line up, free concerts in Snowmass on Thursdays and not to mention the always amazing Belly Up Aspen lineup.

  5. Golf. I’m an avid golfer and I would be remiss if I did not point out the seven golf courses in the Roaring Fork Valley. And at these elevations you’ll be able to blast the ball up to 20% further!
